Meet Legislator Tom Muratore

Legislator Tom Muratore has been a Suffolk County resident for the majority of his life. He graduated from Central Islip High School in 1963, and has resided in Ronkonkoma with his wife Linda since 1970.

Tom was elected to the Fourth Legislative District in November 2009, and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Public Works, Transportation and Energy Committee. He is also a member of the Environment, Planning and Agriculture as well as the Seniors and Consumer Protection Committees.

As a Legislator, Tom strives to enact laws to protect the taxpayers of Suffolk County, as well as ensuring their quality of life and safety. In 2014, he sponsored a bill to establish an Energy Utility Oversight Task Force, as well as co-sponsoring a bill to secure a 23-acre parcel on Boyle Road in Selden. This land is being developed by the Town of Brookhaven; a ball field now exists, with parkland and walking trails to follow. In 2015, Legislator Muratore was instrumental in getting a bill adopted to monitor the use of drones in county parks.

As a former Suffolk County Police Officer and Union law enforcement official with over 34 years of service to the community, Thomas Muratore has devoted his career to protecting and serving the people of Suffolk County. Prior to becoming Vice President for the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, a position that he held for 18 years, Tom served as a Patrol Officer and Instructor at the Police Academy. Tom is currently a member of the Suffolk County Police Columbia Association, and serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.

Tom is involved in a variety of political, civic and community service areas throughout the community. As a member of the West Brookhaven Lake Republican Club, he is a Republican Committeeman for the 13th Election District. He is a member of the Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Association, a member of the Order Sons of Italy in Ronkonkoma, and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. In 2006, Tom was honored with the “Community Service Award of Excellence” by Suffolk County Community College and was selected as the Suffolk County Girl Scouts’ Honoree for 2007. In 2012, he was awarded the Jerry Brewi “Go-To Guy” award by the MacArthur Business Alliance, and was named the Man of the Year in Government by the Times of Middle Country newspaper. Tom has also been inducted into NYIT’s Honor Society, Nu Upsilon Tau and named an honoree in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Tom graduated cum laude from NYIT with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies in Hospitality Management in 2002.

As a former small business owner, Tom understands the peoples’ need for representation in county government. Budgeting, taxes, infrastructure, safety, and caring for our veteran and senior population are all issues of concern to Tom. He considers it an honor to represent the people of the Fourth Legislative District. More about Tom
